JOURNEY BEGAN
Gemcon's journey began with the formation of Castle Construction in 1979 by its our founder Kazi Shahid Ahmed.

Castle engaged in civil construction and gas pipelines works; its first ever project was worth only Tk. 26 lacs.

Gemini Sea Food
By 1982 Castle was successful enough that our founder could venture into other fields with Gemini Seafood.

Gemini's Meena is one of the most esteemed Brands to American buyers of Bangladeshi seafood; and Gemini exported over Tk. 100 crores for the last 3 years running.

Just a year after Gemini, our engineering expanded into pole-making, with rare technology imported from Germany by our founder.

Khoborer Kagoj
Our founder, a man always of diverse interests and unstinting courage, entered the media field in 1989 with the Weekly Khoborer Kagoj, a magazine that played a dynamic role in the pro-democracy movement.

Ajker Kagoj
In 1991, we brought out the daily Ajker Kagoj newspaper, which inaugurated modern journalism in Bangladesh, becoming the first nationally recognized unit of the Group.

Charka Fashions
In 1992, Gemcon founded a garments factory, Charka Fashions.

Gemcon's success at its peak funded our biggest and recent expansions, setting the platform for us to position ourselves nationally, and to start looking even beyond.

Kazi & Kazi Tea
In 2000, we established Kazi & Kazi Tea Estate, the first in Tetulia, and the first and only Bangladeshi garden to receive international organic certification

Charka Steel
In 2001, we introduced Charka Steel, the only high-tensile steel drawing factory in the country.

Meena Bazar
In 2002, we opened the first outlet of our Meena Bazar retail chain, the new face of supermarkets in Bangladesh.

Gem Jute
In 2003, we established Gem Jute, to promote sustainable development and support the environment by providing high-quality, organic, biodegradable products to the world market

ULAB
In 2004, we launched the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh. Through its first-ever Convocation on July 20, 2010, ULAB established itself as a recognized quality educational institution, with a long-term vision to the future.
